01 / How it started

How it started

It started with a balance board. My brother and I wanted to see what happens when electricity and water meet wood – the result was a lightning pattern burned deep into the grain.

Fascinated that it can never be repeated, we refined the technique: first on the board, then on a charger. Today I'm building Ezzy Swiss on my own, alongside my apprenticeship.

I only decide where the current enters the wood and where it should leave. Everything in between, it decides itself.

It takes the easiest path – shaped by the grain, the moisture and spots in the wood I can't even see.

Even if someone wanted the exact same pattern again, I couldn't copy it. At first that bothered me. Today it's the best part.
